Nightswimming
Well, night-riding actually. In fact, the lack thereof. I was supposed to be going for a night ride on New Year's Eve and seeing in the New Year somewhere in the hills above Newcastleton. I haven't done nearly as much riding as I would have liked recently, so I was pretty disappointed when Tim rang to say that he was too ill.
However, as the sun set on 2006, I was secretly pretty glad that he'd called the ride off. It was getting windier and wetter by the minute, and I really didn't fancy being out on a bike in that weather.
I rode the same route by myself the next day. I bumped into the forestry warden in the car park, and he asked me to take care because he expected some level of wind-fall on the route. I was pretty careful, and sure enough, I pretty quickly discovered some "windfall." This was not the only tree that had been blown over the trail, but it was easily the biggest. That's my bike in the bottom, right hand corner of the picture.
Happy New Year, by the way.
